Ordinary Australians could be stopped from breeding their dogs if new legislation passes in NSW parliament.

Veterinarian Dr Robert Zammit tells 2GB’s Ray Hadley if the legislation passes, “every man and his dog will be up against it.”

The draft legislation, which is meant to curb puppy farming, could make the problem worse.

“There’ll be nowhere else to buy. No-one else will be breeding, only the big puppy farms. It’s ridiculous.”

The proposal will limit the amount of female dogs on a property to just one.

Cat breeders could also be affected if the legislation goes through.
