2018 Australian of the Year – Professor Michelle Simmons
January 26th is a day we celebrate everything that’s great with this country, including our most remarkable citizens.
Last night, Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull honoured our greatest Aussies, announcing the four Australian of the Year Award recipients at a ceremony in the Great Hall of Parliament House in Canberra.
Professor Michelle Yvonne Simmons led the way, being named 2018 Australian of the Year.
The English-born quantum physicist is one of the world’s top scientists, whose pioneering research has Australia leading the “space race of the computing era”.
Steve Price speaks with Professor Michelle Simmons about the moment her family discovered her brilliant mind, her research and why she chose to make Australia home.

Steve also speaks with Professor Jeffrey Rosenfeld, who has been made a companion of the Order of Australia in the General Division.
His honour comes for eminent service to medicine, particularly to the discipline of neurosurgery, as an academic and clinician, to medical research and professional organisations, and to the health and welfare of current and former defence force members.
