Ben Fordham has paid tribute to 5000+ Australians killed in a single night in 1916 on the Western Front.

Today marks the beginning of the Battle of Fromelles which is considered the most disastrous 24-hour period in Australia’s military history.

Troops from the 5th division had been ordered to seize a four-kilometre area controlled by the Germans in Northern France.

It was meant to be a diversion but German forces were waiting for our troops.

“While we remember the horrors of war, we never forget the bravery of those who put their lives on the line,” Ben said.
