Mark Taylor explains why he resigned from Cricket Australia’s board
Mark Taylor says the last six months have been “taxing”, in his first interview since resigning from the board of Cricket Australia.
The former Australian cricket captain announced he’d be stepping down as a board director this afternoon.
Former CA chairman David Peever resigned late last week, after a scathing review into the organisation’s culture was handed down.
Taylor joins Ben Fordham in his first interview since the announcement.
He says the past 18 months have really taken it out of him and it wasn’t a touch decision.
“I’m a bit weary, Ben, to be totally honest,” he says.
“The last 18 months has taken it out of me and I think a lot of people in Australian cricket.
“I think now’s the time for some fresh voices, some new people in and around Australian cricket to try and get through this period.”
Taylor says as a cricket commentator, a former player and a member of the Cricket Australia board it was difficult to “keep everyone happy”.
“People want to hear from you but at times as a board director you have to be careful, you don’t want to tread on people’s toes.”
Taylor has also addressed speculation that he’s considering a political career.
