Accused wife killer Chris Dawson offers $1.5-million bail bond
A court has heard Chris Dawson is willing to offer $1.5 million in security to get bail, as he’s accused of the 1982 murder of his first wife Lynette.
The 70-year-old was extradited from Queensland last week then charged with murdering his former wife, who disappeared from their Northern Beaches home.
Dawson is now seeking to be released on bail. His solicitor Greg Walsh has told a court the Crown’s case is “entirely circumstantial”.
But the Crown has submitted “the case…is based on a number of strong circumstances”.
The accused, who appeared via video link, will have to wait until Monday to find out whether he’ll be released on bail.
2GB Police Reporter Alice Hogg tells Ben Fordham Dawson was “quiet for most of the proceeding”.
“At times he had his head in his hands but he did become vocal at one point while listening to the Crown’s submissions when they suggested he’d be a flight risk if he could attempt to use his twin brother’s passport.
“At that point, he scoffed and said, ‘You’re kidding’.”
