Heatstroke is being singled out as a potential killer at music festivals, along with illicit drugs.

Five people have died from suspected overdoses at festivals in the past four months.

Advanced Life Emergency Care and Rescue’s Russell Setright has worked as a medic at dozens of these events.

He tells John Stanley drugs and heat mixed together is an extremely dangerous combination.

“If you take MDMA and ecstasy at the right dose, perfectly pure, you will get an increase in body temperature.

“Then you’ve got 38 degrees, bouncing and jumping around, you’re temperature goes up.

“Once you get over 40 degrees core body heat you then move into heat stroke.”
