Senior Australian of the Year ‘really humbled’ by the honour

All of Australia, and even the world, knows this year’s joint-Australian of the Year recipients Dr Richard Harris and Craig Challen.

The two mates were instrumental in the daring rescue of 12 young boys and their coach from a flooded cave in Thailand last year.

While our Senior Australian of the Year may not be as well recognised, her work over almost 50 years has helped thousands of young children.

Since starting her career as a paediatrician in 1972, Dr Sue Packer AM has been a leader in child abuse prevention and treatment.

Dr Packer tells Steve Price she is “really humbled” by the recognition.

“In fact, I’m still in somewhat of a daze.

“Yes you’re proud, yes you’re humble because the more work you do the more things you have to feel humble about.”
