‘Really unacceptable’: Opal Tower builder to stop paying for food and temporary accommodation
More residents are expected to move back into Sydney’s damaged Opal Tower after the builder stopped paying for temporary accommodation and food.
Icon won’t pay food or accommodation past Sunday breakfast for residents of 74 apartments after the body corporate’s engineers declared those units safe to occupy.
Other residents will be able to stay in hotel accommodation until at least Wednesday.
Owner of one of those apartments, Andrew Neverly, says “it’s really unacceptable”.
Mr Neverly had a tenant in his apartment, who has since moved out, and he tells Ross Greenwood it’ll be “impossible” to find someone new.
