Bushfires threatening homes in northern NSW
Emergency warnings have been issued for two blazes burning in the state’s north, which are threatening properties.
Residents south of Inverell are being urged to seek shelter as a fast-moving fire has already burned almost 1000 hectares of bushland.
A separate, out-of-control grassfire is burning west of Tabulum with authorities warning it could spread to a nearby Aboriginal settlement.

Rural Fire Service Commissioner Shane Fitzsimmons tells Ben Fordham conditions are making things very difficult.
“We’ve issued a number of warnings via the telephone network to communities in and around the affected there, with instruction as appropriate based on their circumstances.
“Lots of firefighters on the ground and aircraft in the air but that fire’s far from over and it’s got a long way to run under those strong winds at the moment.”
