Mayor responds to tattered and torn Australian flag
The Mayor of Canterbury Bankstown has vowed to replace an Australian flag left flying in a state of disrepute.
Local residents have been calling for the council to do something about the worn and tattered flag.
Listener Abbas tells Ben Fordham it was his 7-year-old son who first noticed the state of the flag.

The mayor of Canterbury Bankstown Khal Asfour has responded to the situation, telling Ben he’s “disgusted” by the state of the flag.
“We’ve had Australians fight and die under this flag and it’s something I take very seriously.
“I can assure you and your listeners that flag will be replaced first thing tomorrow morning with a brand new Australian flag.”
He says he will be auditing all the flagpoles on council property in the future to make sure this doesn’t happen again.

The flag was first raised on September 1 1994, to commemorate the bicentenary of the settlement of Bankstown in 1795.
