Tania Burgess’ killer denied parole

Tania Burgess’ killer has been denied parole, after stabbing the 15-year-old girl 48 times on the Central Coast.

On July 19, 2005, Tania got off the school bus at Forresters Beach and was walking home.

A 16-year-old, who can only be identified as DL, ambushed Tania, stabbing her before running off.

Tania’s parents Mandy and Chris heard their daughter’s screams and held her as she died a horrific death.

DL was found guilty of murder and sentenced to 22 years in jail, with a non-parole period of 17 years.

In January, it was revealed four years had been wiped off his sentence, which made him available for parole after only serving 13 years of his sentence.

Tania’s mother Mandy Burgess tells Ben Fordham she is relieved with the outcome but says it’s not the end.

“I call it a bandaid, it will just come out again.

“We may get 12 months release, but the time will come next year again that we hear the parole is up for another decision.”
