Gladys Berejiklian has won the 2019 NSW State Election and made history as the first elected female Premier.

The Coalition has won 46 of the 47 seats needed to form a majority in the Lower House. The government is expecting to secure Dubbo and East Hills to take their final count to 48.

Political commentator Peta Credlin believes Gladys Berejiklian ran a tremendous campaign, telling Alan Jones she didn’t lose her energy or her focus and more importantly she didn’t panic.

“Didn’t panic – that’s the key,” agreed Alan Jones.

Ms Credlin claims she’s seen “leaders completely lose it when things get tight”. However, the premier remained “determined, steely, (and) authentic” throughout the campaign.
“She was never what she isn’t.
“She was completely herself.
“She has won in her own right.”

Credlin says while there are some Federal parallels to be seen in the outcome she “wouldn’t over-read it” and emphasised, “Shorten is no Daley”.

She stressed it will come down to how well Liberal incumbents have used the last three years.

“Incumbency really matters.”

Following the Coalition win on the weekend, the Primary Industries Minister Niall Blair has announced he is resigning from the ministry despite being re-elected to the NSW Upper House. In a statement, Mr Blair says the personal and professional costs of public life have taken their toll.

And defeated NSW Opposition Leader, Michael Daley, told Labor members he hopes to remain as the leader of the party. However, it is being reported Mr Daley may soon face a leadership challenge following the collapse of his party’s primary vote on election day.
