A preschool in Sydney’s inner-west has come under fire for scrapping plans to celebrate Mother’s Day.

Learn and Laugh early childhood centre in Drummoyne says they’ve decided to stop celebrating the day out of respect for single-parent families.

They say they’ll be organising ‘family and friends’ days instead.

But Senator Cory Bernardi says the decision sets a dangerous precedent.

“We are going down a dangerous path here.

“Where does this end? This is about degenderising society. It is about removing the roles of mums and dads.

“This is bordering now on the absurd.”
