‘Discrimination’: Caster Semenya loses legal case over testosterone levels
South African runner Caster Semenya has lost her legal case over the regulation of her high testosterone levels.
The two-time Olympic gold medallist was born a woman, but has naturally-occurring high levels of testosterone.
Under the ruling, she would now be forced to take medication to reduce her testosterone levels if she wants to continue competing against other women.
She has argued the decision is discriminatory and that her unique genetic gifts should be celebrated.
Sports lawyer David Galbally agrees, and tells Ben Fordham it’s “a poor decision”.
“She’s a woman, she was born that way, and there’s no evidence necessarily to suggest that she’s going to ultimately be any quicker than anybody else over the long term.
“They’ve effectively excluded her from the sport and it certainly is discrimination.”
