Lockout laws will affect council’s plan to have shops open 24/7
Christine Forster says Clover Moore has not been able to negotiate with the state government after announcing plans for 24/7 trading in parts of the city.
The City of Sydney has proposed a 24/7 trading zone in the city, which would allow retail stores to trade all hours but would not affect businesses which fall under the NSW government’s lockout laws.
Councillor Christine Forster tells Ben Fordham the 24/7 trading zone would work best if lockout laws were amended.
“The problem is that the lord mayor can’t successfully work with the state government to achieve an outcome.
“An effective lord mayor would be able to sit down with the state government and negotiate an outcome that was of benefit to all the businesses in the CBD.”
