‘National tragedy’: Christine Forster speaks out about her brother’s election campaign

Article image for ‘National tragedy’: Christine Forster speaks out about her brother’s election campaign

Tony Abbott sister says it would be a “national tragedy” if he was to lose his seat at this week’s election.

The member for Warringah has repeatedly said he’s “in the fight of his political life” against Independent Zali Steggall.

The GetUp backed Winter Olympian has become the face of a major campaign to remove the former PM from parliament.

Christine Forster has entered the campaign, supporting her brother who she’s had several public disagreements with in the past.

The City of Sydney Councillor tells Alan Jones her brother “is absolutely a man of conviction”.

“He, in my view, has always had the national interest at heart and has always acted to do what he thought was the best thing for the country and not for himself.

“It would be a national tragedy, in my view, if this was a man who was lost to parliament.

Asked if the deeply personal attacks on her brother are having an impact on the family, Ms Forster admits it’s never easy to hear such vile abuse.

“So much of the criticism that Tony attracts is completely unwarranted.”

Ms Forster went on to slam claims that her brother is a misogynist.

“A more ridiculous claim you could never level at a man.”
