New research shows more young people are staying home longer than ever before.

Millennials living in cities are more likely to stay with their parents longer than those living in the country.

Australian Institute of Family Studies shows 43 per cent of young people were living in the family home in 2016 compared to 36 per cent in 1981.

The number of women choosing to live at home longer has soared at a faster rate than men who, historically, were more likely to stay home.

Chris Smith says, “as parents, one of the most exciting things we have to look forward to is becoming empty nesters.

“We love and adore our kids… but getting that freedom and getting that space back… it can be heaven can’t it?”
