‘Nothing worse than a sore loser’: Surge in Aussies looking to move to NZ following election

There’s been a surge in the number of Australians looking at the New Zealand immigration website following the Coalition’s federal election victory.

After Scott Morrison was returned to office in a surprise election result on Saturday, many Aussies took to social media to claim they’d rather move to New Zealand than stay in the country.

Immigration New Zealand has now confirmed there were 10 times more Aussies looking at their website the day after the election.

Ben Fordham has slammed the intolerance of those who are unhappy with the result.

“There’s nothing worse than a sore loser.

“If you really wanna go [to New Zealand], go right ahead.”

Tim Roxburgh, co-host of NewsTalk ZB and travel writer for the New Zealand Herald, says the phenomenon is not unique to Australia.

“If the election doesn’t go your way in New Zealand, people generally say the same thing about Australia, they’re thinking of moving.”
