‘A little bit embarrassing’: Crash tackle cop reflects on making global headlines
The police officer who went viral after he was filmed tackling a man who interrupted his Sunshine Coast press conference says he’s glad to see police presented in a positive light.
Detective Senior Sargeant Daren Edwards was speaking with the media outside Maroochydore Police Station on Wednesday when a man came sprinting towards him.
He was being chased by another man, who said he’d been harassing his daughter.
The detective, and former Rugby League player, immediately executes the perfect tackle, knocking the man to the ground and cuffing him.

Detective Senior Sargeant Edwards tells Ray Hadley he’s happy to see the police getting some positive press.
“A little bit embarrassing, but you know I think there are some positive things that have come out of it.
“Why should our woman have to put up with that on the street?
“Police should be able to take action if someone is intimidating or harassing a woman.”
