Undercover police officers posing as mums bust alleged predators
Police officers have gone undercover as the mothers of young girls to catch men trying to groom children.
Four men, aged between 32 and 61, have been charged in the last three weeks over alleged online procurement and inciting children for sex.
The men allegedly engaged in sexually explicit conversations the mothers of girls aged 8 and 9.
But they didn’t know the ‘mothers’ were actually specially-trained undercover police officers operating under Strike Force Trawler.
Detective Superintendent John Kerlatec tells Merrick Watts the men often try to get to children through their mothers.
“We are sadly aware that there are single mums out there who are groomed online by these predators… to gain direct access to their kids.”
