UPDATE | Prisoner charged over cowardly attack on elderly woman at Belmore

A man has been charged over a cowardly attack on an elderly lady in Sydney’s south-west back in July.
Police released CCTV footage of the brazen robbery on Leyland Parade at Belmore, with thousands of 2GB listeners viewing and sharing the footage.
The man snatched a gold chain off the 79-year-old woman’s neck in broad daylight before fleeing.
Yesterday police went to the South Coast Correctional Centre, arresting a 24-year-old inmate over the attack.
He’s been charged and will face court next month.
It’s not known at this stage what he was in jail for.

Police have released CCTV footage of a callous thief who attacked an elderly woman in broad daylight in Sydney’s south-west.
The 79-year-old was walking along Leyland Parade at Belmore at about 11.40am on July 12.
Footage shows a man stalking her from behind before he allegedly attacked, snatching a gold chain from around her neck.
The chain broke with the man stealing half of it and the crucifix that was attached, before fleeing on foot.
The man is described as in his 30s, with olive skin, a skinny build, thick curly hair and had a moustache.
He was wearing a dark blue jumper with a white “Nautica” logo on the front, dark tracksuit pants and black joggers.
