More than 22,000 workers will go on strike on Thursday, over a “security crisis” at New South Wales hospitals.

Doctors, nurses, paramedics, admin staff and security guards will walk off the job, saying “workers are fed up with threats to their safety due to chronic underinvestment in hospital security”.

There have been three shootings at hospitals in the last three years and two guards have been stabbed already this year.

Strike action will begin at 8am and will be staggered across the day.

HSU National President Gerard Hayes promises Ben Fordham patients will not be neglected.

“We’ll have a skeleton staff in place to make sure patients who need assistance obviously will be assisted.

“This is not about harming patients, this is actually about trying to protect patients, visitors and hospital workers.

“The Ministry of Health are not stepping up to the mark!”
