Catholic Archbishop fighting for changes to abortion laws
The Catholic Archbishop of Sydney says if there has to be an abortion bill, it can be done better.
The legislation passed the lower house last week and will now go to an upper house inquiry before being voted on again.
A group of MPs are vowing to stop the bill as it stands and will launch a fresh bid to prevent sex-selective terminations.
Archbishop Anthony Fisher tells Alan Jones there’s been a grim determination to force the law.
“Why do we want to allow them right up to birth and even babies born alive?” he asks.
“Why do we want to stop sex-selection amendments in the Parliament to say you can’t have an abortion just because the baby is a girl?
“These are the most sensible amendments, compromises.”
