Political commentator Peta Credlin is calling on Australia to stand up for Hong Kong as anti-China protests continue to escalate in the region.

Hong Kong police deployed water cannons and fired a live bullet at protesters for the first time last weekend.

Peta Credlin says it’s time Australia stands up for democratic values by supporting the protesters.

“I don’t think Australia is saying enough… I don’t think the West is signalling enough that we believe in the values of democracy.

“We’re all scared of China because of its economic clout, but if this was happening in another country in our region… we’d be a little bit more vocal.”
