Proposed religious freedom laws released to the public
The government has released its highly anticipated religious freedom laws proposal for community consideration.
The legislation was an election promise from Scott Morrison after the same-sex marriage bill passed.
Some faith leaders and LGBTI group have already raised concerns but the government says it is completely open for discussion.
Attorney-General Christian Porter will travel the country explaining the proposed changes and encouraging members of the public to make submissions by phone, post or online.
He tells Alan Jones they are protecting people from discrimination, not giving them a sword to attack others.
“We’re protecting people from discrimination, rather than providing a framework where they have a sword to argue that they can do x, y or z.
“No freedom or rite is absolute, they all come into conflict with other freedoms or rites.”
