Comedian and Triple M radio host Lawrence Mooney is well known for his incredible impression of former prime minister Malcolm Turnbull.

But he tells Ben Fordham he actually has disgraced senator Sam Dastyari to thank for spreading his impression far and wide.

He says Dastyari thought it would be a hilarious idea for him to conduct some mock press conferences at the Senate where he posed as Mr Turnbull.

“I had my own press conference and it got covered, ended up going pretty much viral!”
