Audi’s impressive RS 5 Sportback – A luxury high-performance GT with a dual personality
Sometimes, along comes a car that ticks all the boxes for you and this week I found that with Audi’s RS – 5 Sportback. As distinct from the Audi RS-5 two-door Coupe the Sportback has five doors, a practical sports Audi and frankly one of the most dynamic cars I’ve driven for a long time. A luxury five-door five-seater priced at $157,700. A 2.9-litre twin-turbo eight-speed automatic Quattro or all-wheel-drive. The Audi RS-5 Sportback is a striking car visually with classic Gran Turismo styling – sitting on a rather long wheelbase. The engine a gem – a 2.9-litre V6 twin-turbo with exceptional power driving through a quick shift eight-speed tiptronic gearbox with manual paddles. With permanent all-wheel-drive the RS 5 can really put a smile on your face on a winding country road – superb grip and balance its tenacious in the way it grabs the road. With 331 kW of power, 600Nm of torque it’s a skyrocket on wheels able to reach 100km/hour in 3.9 secs. The nice thing about this luxury Audi RS-5 Sportback with its four available driving modes via a push button is its docile nature around town – smooth, great ride in comfort mode while its sport attributes can be quickly tapped when required. Safety, comfort and convenience features are all as you would expect for a luxury Sportback of this ilk. I can’t recall a week of motoring I have enjoyed as much – simply first class.
