Extinction Rebellion’s latest ‘un-Australian’ protest targeting politicians

Article image for Extinction Rebellion’s latest ‘un-Australian’ protest targeting politicians

Extinction Rebellion has a new plan to protest inaction on climate change, this time focussing on our politicians.

The activist group has threatened to block off Canberra airport unless federal MPs shut down the fossil fuel industry within two weeks and legislate to cut emissions to a net total of zero by 2025.

In a letter to MPs, they say they will carry out the blockade on December 5 as our politicians “don’t deserve a smooth trip home from work”.

Liberal Senator Eric Abetz tells Ben Fordham it’s a disgusting threat.

“These sort of threats are completely un-Australian… they’re ugly.

“If we were to close down the coal industry the government would be literally billions of dollars worse off.”
