Prison guard escapes jail over relationship with cop-killer
A prison guard who had an “intimate relationship” with a convicted police killer has avoided jail herself.
In July 2018, Ray Hadley exclusively revealed corrections officer Amy Connors was in a relationship with murderer Sione Penisini at the Mid North Coast Correctional Centre.
The then-34-year-old resigned but was later arrested, charged and found guilty of multiple offences.
Connors was sentenced in Port Macquarie District Court today and escaped jail with a 12-month Community Corrections Order.
Her solicitor addressed the media outside court, saying Ray Hadley and the media have been “very hard on her”, according to 7 News journalist Peter Fegan who was there.
“I’ll wear it as a badge of honour that her brief is blaming me in some way, shape or form because it was this program that brought it to light,” says Ray.
“Despite the rather limp-wristed sentence she’s been given, I’ll be asking the DPP and police to look at the possibility of appealing the judgement.”

The story, brought to light by Ray Hadley, led to a spate of other prison guards being caught in relationships with inmates.
The Ray Hadley Morning Show revealed more than 10 other incidents which led to the introduction of new legislation, specifically outlawing the act.
