In the past three months, enough water has flowed out to sea from South Australia to support regional NSW for a year, according to NSW’s water minister.

The NSW government has threatened to pull out of the Murray-Darling Basin Plan, which they say is sending billions of litres of water out to sea while NSW struggles through the worst drought in living memory.

State and federal ministers will meet tomorrow in Brisbane to discuss the plan’s future.

NSW Water Minister Melinda Pavey tells John Stanley it’s clear things need to change.

“It needed to be able to adapt and look at the circumstances that you’re in.

“NSW is in the worst drought ever, yet we’re running the lake in South Australia at minor flood level. That doesn’t make any sense.

“It’s disingenuous… it’s not practical, it’s not common sense.”
