Sydney Football Stadium cost blows out by $100 million under new contract
The NSW government has come under fire after it was revealed the cost of the Sydney Football Stadium rebuild has blown out by nearly $100 million.
The state government has signed a new contract with John Holland to carry out the construction of the stadium after they severed ties with Lendlease in July when they failed to meet building requirements.
The total cost is now expected to be $828 million. The original budgeted cost under Lendlease was $729 million.
John Holland has committed to delivering the stadium in time for the 2022 NRL Grand Final.
NSW Shadow Minister for Sport Lynda Voltz tells Mark Levy she’s not surprised by the budget blowout.
“It’s a consistent story with this government. Just about every project runs late, it runs over budget.
“It was always going to be more expensive.”
