State ignored warnings of bushfire ‘death trap’ by South Coast farmers
Farmers on the South Coast warned Premier Gladys Berejiklian, over a year ago, that towns were in a bushfire “death trap” because of dangerous fuel loads not being cleared by local government.
Bega Valley Shire Farmers and Land Owners Group member Wayne Doyle wrote to the Premier in April 2018 warning against a decision by the local council to slap environmental zonings on farmland which he said posed a safety risk to other towns.
The NSW Planning Department replied saying they would look at the issue.
But Mr Doyle tells Luke Grant he never heard back.
“They’ve got to revisit this and find a better solution.
“Until all this changes we’re just going to suffer this.”
