‘My heart’s broken’: Andrew Constance says money needed now for ‘humanitarian crisis’
Bega MP Andrew Constance says immediate cash injections are needed to help bushfire victims in the middle of what he calls a humanitarian crisis.
The NSW Transport Minister has stepped back from ministerial duties for the time being to help support his community.
Flooding has caused road closures across the state as much needed rain provides firefighters with some relief, but Mr Constance tells Deborah Knight his community remains dry.
He says many people are “in real crisis” if they don’t receive money shortly.
“The monster’s still sitting up the back in the ranges and then if the conditions turn ugly it’s just like fingers creeping out and just taking people’s places and destroying communities.
“This is a humanitarian crisis where we’ve got to get money into people’s pockets today.
“My heart’s broken over this. I’m scared for the thousands of displaced people.”
