‘It’s a disgrace’: Shocking amount of looting in bushfire zones
The NSW Police Commissioner says he’s “never seen looting” like what’s occurred in bushfire-affected areas of the state.
The death toll now stands at 21 in NSW after an unprecedented bushfire season.
Police Commissioner Mick Fuller remained on-duty during the crisis, visiting some of the worst-hit communities in the state’s south.
He joined Ben Fordham in-studio, explaining although he’s been involved in many emergency situations, he’s been disgusted by the widespread thieving in this instance.
“I’ve never seen looting like I’ve seen during this emergency. It’s a disgrace and it made me sick to the stomach.
“Part of what I need to make sure is we’re putting the right amount of police into these areas.
“I was on the ground in a recovery centre south of Batemans Bay and every second person I spoke to either had someone try to get into their house or their neighbours had someone trying to steal something from them.”
