A Tasmanian gardening enthusiast has staked a claim of growing Australia’s longest carrot at 1.45 meters long, weighing in at 1.8 kilograms.

Warren Prewer is no stranger to growing giant vegetables for the Launceston Flower Show.

But the carrot grown for this year’s show, could be an Australian record breaker.

He’s yet to taste the potentially record breaking carrot, but told rural editor Eddie Summerfield, he’s got some meals in mind.

“I’m envisioning it will taste like a normal carrot which I’ll have a have an awful lot of to get through, I could make an awful lot of Juliet carrots couldn’t I?” Mr Prewer said.

The world record for the longest carrot measures in at a whopping 6.425 metres, set at the UK in 2016.

Mr Prewer says while the record isn’t on his mind when the show returns next year, he’s got big plans.

“My personal goal next year because I’ve managed to keep some seeds still, if I can get to three metres next year I think I’m doing pretty well, but I’m certainly looking at putting some sort of structure together to get it longer than that.”
