Paedophile-hunting detectives’ ranks swell amid warning for absent-minded parents
The NSW Police’s online child abuse unit has gained 10 new detectives, nearly doubling the force dedicated to apprehending paedophiles.
Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad Commander Detective Superintendent Jayne Doherty told Ray Hadley the previously 14-officer strong Child Exploitation Internet Unit has charged 56 people with 255 offences.
Her message to parents this National Child Protection Week is to not let down your guard during lockdown.
“We’re getting to the point where parents are getting so used to their kids being online that they’re stepping back and leaving them on their own, which is quite dangerous.”
