NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian has announced a trial of changes to the state’s quarantine arrangements, including “opening the door” to home quarantine.

From the end of September, 175 people will be able to quarantine from home for seven days if fully vaccinated with TGA-approved vaccines.

NSW Tourism Minister Stuart Ayres said the trial participants will include Qantas aircrew, and returning NSW residents of various demographics selected by NSW Health and police.

“This will build on the evidence collected through the South Australian trial, … where we utilise technology, particularly facial recognition and location-based services apps on your phone, to allow police and health to continue to check in on a person.”

The Premier also confirmed work has begun on the NSW roadmap at 80 per cent fully-vaccinated, including the implications for international travel.

“All of us have to play our part in helping Australia open up and reconnect with the world, and making sure we do it safely and cautiously according to these plans.”
