Councillors ‘surprised’ as ‘Grinch’ Clover Moore scraps NYE family fireworks
New Year’s Eve family fireworks display has been scrapped by the City of Sydney.
The Sydney Morning Herald has obtained a leaked email from the City of Sydney to stakeholders, insisting the move will keep NYE “resilient in the face of continuing uncertainty”.
“This is an absolute disgrace,” Chris Smith said.
“Sydney Lord Mayor Clover Moore may as well change her name to ‘The Grinch’!
“You have no idea where we’ll be by November, let alone January 1.
“This will go down as her worst, most brutal, heartless decision … resign today and let someone run the council who has a heart!”

City of Sydney councillor Christine Forster told Chris Smith the decision came as a surprise.
“It hasn’t been discussed.
“We’re 100 days out from this event … and yet the Lord Mayor has pulled the rug.”
