Smoke haze from hazard reduction burns is settling over Sydney’s north, causing air quality in parts of the city to be downgraded from ‘good’ to ‘fair’.

NSW RFS Deputy Commissioner Peter McKechnie told Jim Wilson the Balgowlah Heights burn is responsible for the haze.

“Tomorrow we’re going to see around 50 hectares being burnt up there on the northern beaches in the area of Bayview, just north of Ingleside.

“We don’t expect it to be [at] the levels of any significant health impacts, but there will be smoke in the air.

“We have to take these opportunities when the window’s open.”
