Businesses brace for unvaccinated backlash, call for increase in ‘fail to quit’ fines
Business owners are calling for “grey areas” in the law to be clarified ahead of next month’s reopening, as they prepare for backlash from the unvaccinated.
Pub owner and former MP Craig Laundy told Jim Wilson instances of anti-vaxxers confronting staff are inevitable, but he hopes they’ll be few and far between.
He called on the government to limit businesses’ liability for wrongful death if patrons or staff contract COVID, and expects Police Minister David Elliott to give police additional powers.
“They’re the ones that we’re going to call if we can’t convince the person to quit the premises.
“There’s already a $550 fine … but I don’t think that’s enough.
“I think you need to make it substantial so that [for] these lunatics [who] do want to cause headaches, there’s a stick that the police can hang over their heads.”
