A new award has been introduced to the Sport Australia Hall of Fame named after one of Australia’s greatest ever swimmers, Dawn Fraser.

Joining Jim Wilson, Fraser happily embraced the criteria of The Dawn Award, which is to be awarded to “a courageous groundbreaker who has demonstrated achievement against the odds and challenged the status quo”.

“That is me!

“You have to [challenge authorities] sometimes.

“[I] was told by Bill Berge Phillips I would never, ever swim for Australia – well, I proved him wrong, because that’s the type of person I am!”
