Relief for Sydney’s commuters as public transport strikes called off
Rail workers have put a “fairly serious” strike planned for today on hold after a breakthrough in negotiations.
Rail Tram and Bus Union NSW Secretary Alex Claasens told Jim Wilson the union has been taking industrial action since September, but needed to take the more drastic strike action seen last week after going unheard by Transport for NSW officials.
“There was a lot of late-night conversations on Friday night, and pretty much most of Saturday was going backwards and forwards.
“Transport for NSW have now got involved, and they’ve agreed to sit down and do some intensive bargaining.”
