Regional businesses ‘ecstatic’ as government considers early release of travel ban
The NSW government is considering lifting the ban on travel between Sydney and the regions a weekend early.
While the restriction was to be removed on Monday November 1, Jim Wilson revealed the recovery cabinet is having “serious discussions” about moving it forward before the weekend.
“An early opening would be worth millions of dollars, and give priceless memories to so many.”

Hunter Valley Wine and Tourism Association president Kristina Tulloch welcomed the news, telling Jim Wilson she’s become adept at adapting quickly to changing health orders.
“We’d be ecstatic if we were able to open up a couple of days earlier.
“The weekend is when we see the most traffic, so having an extra weekend where we can welcome Sydney into the Hunter Valley would just be fabulous news for all of the tourism operators.”

Owner of Mitchies Jetty in Merimbula Scott Deveril told Jim the South Coast got “a little taste” of business as usual last weekend thanks to Canberran travellers.
“We had our best trading weekend in some months.
“When Sydney opens up, it’ll be fantastic.
“Every day counts at the moment, and I just wish the government would bite the bullet and say ‘Sydney, you’re ready to go, be free’.”
