A Sydney Mayor has blasted fellow councils cancelling Australia Day.

The Hills Shire Council won’t be hosting Australia Day celebrations on January 26 due to COVID-19.

While the Inner West Council has stopped celebrating the day altogether.

Cumberland City Council Mayor Steve Christou told Ben Fordham they will be celebrating “bigger and better”.

“What a bunch of pathetic, lazy, unAustralian elective representatives we have on some of our councils.

“Wake up to yourselves … you’re an embarrassment and you’re pathetic.”
