Mark McGowan’s ‘cruel and disgraceful’ COVID roadmap blindsides Australia
WA Premier Mark McGowan has announced Western Australia will only reopen its border when 90 per cent of the over 12 population are fully vaccinated.
Setting out the state’s COVID roadmap, Mr McGowan said a date will be confirmed at the 80 per cent milestone.
62.7 per cent of the WA population is currently double-dosed.
He also set out a range of restrictions – including indoor mask-wearing and restricted entry to remote communities – which will be introduced when the border reopens to all Australians.
Jim Wilson labelled the 90 per cent target “cruel and disgraceful”, punishing those with family interstate.
“New South Wales isn’t even at that point yet!
“This plan isn’t a plan, it’s a joke.”
6PR Drive host Oliver Peterson told Jim the roadmap “wasn’t really a surprise” to West Australians, but nevertheless comes as “a body blow”.
“I’ve got an eight-week-old now who’s never met his grandparents.”

Perth-based infectious disease physician Dr Clay Golledge told Jim he was left “fuming” by the announcement.
“I was fuming so much I actually had to get out of work and walk around the block at the hospital … before I did something stupid, and calmed down a little bit.
“He’s completely overcooked it.
“He’s taken away all hope I think for us, and set a target that we may in reality never reach.”
