Ben Fordham has detailed the ‘troubling’ cancellation of former English cricketer and BBC radio host Michael Vaughan over a 12-year-old remark he denies ever happened.

Vaughan has stood down from the BBC to prevent further controversy, after two former Yorkshire players accused him of saying ‘there’s too many of you lot, we need to do something about it,’ to a group of foreign players in 2009.

Vaughan has “completely and categorically” denied using such a phrase, and has in the past supported anti-racism campaigns.

Ben Fordham argued it’s ridiculous to expect people to accurately remember remarks more than a decade old, even more so for “cancel culture warriors” to declare a guilty verdict.

“These days, if you’re accused of racism you’re a sitting duck.

“You’ll never get a fair go.

“If this is the standard going forward, we’re all in trouble.

“Now they’ll be digging through every comment he’s ever made to try to establish a case … and one of the great English cricketers and commentators will be wiped out.”
