Councillor denies knowledge the Obeid’s are behind $100 million development
A Mid Coast Councillor has addressed reports the Obeid family is involved in a beachside apartment project in the tiny town of Hawks Nest.
A Four Corners report alleges the family are owners of 16 hectares of land at Lake Cathie, making over $30 million selling more than 100 plots of land.
They have reportedly purchased two blocks of land totalling $1.5 million, through a representative, at Hawks Nest.
One of those purchases was for only $600,000 in 2018 but the Mid Coast Council has since rezoned the block now worth $6 million.
They now want to build a $100 million development with 140 apartments, according to Four Corners.
Mid Coast Councillor Len Roberts was part of the decision and told Ben Fordham he was unaware the Obeid’s were behind the purchase.
“I’m going back to council and saying, ‘What’s the story here?’
“We’re all concerned about the fact that if proceeds of crime have been used to do all this.”
