Nervous wait for Parramatta businesses to see light rail prove its worth
Parramatta’s business community is holding out hope a slate of recent public transport issues won’t further delay their new $2.4 billion light rail.
Parramatta Chamber of Commerce Vice President Roy Halabi told Jim Wilson assurances have been given the new trams won’t be plagued by the same defects as the Inner West light rail.
However the construction has disrupted businesses and traffic, and some retailers and restaurants have been forced to close down, he said.
“We’ve had a double whammy over in Parramatta when COVID hit, as well as the light rail.
“Once completed, it’s a definite upgrade … and it’ll transform the way the whole city looks.
“It’s just the time between and the agony in between … we have to live with.”
