What makes Remembrance Day special for veteran and Paralympian Curtis McGrath
Afghanistan veteran and two-time Paralympian Curtis McGrath has reflected on the meaning of Remembrance Day to all Australians.
The para-canoeist lost both legs to an IED while serving as a combat engineer in Afghanistan in 2012.
Mr McGrath told Jim Wilson he was honoured to have read poignant war poem In Flanders Fields at a service in Brisbane this morning.
“For me, Remembrance Day isn’t necessarily about going to a shrine … it’s just about taking that moment to reflect and honour the sacrifices of servicemen and women who have gone before us.
“Rather than ANZAC Day, which is an honour to the willingness to serve, it’s more about the reflection of the cost.
“I really do recommend everyone getting involved, and having that moment of silence.”
