Sleepless Sydneysiders met with contractor’s strange headphone hush-up
Transport infrastructure is causing sleepless nights for those living above the drilling of the $3.9 billion Rozelle interchange.
Inner West locals are infuriated about the way they’ve been treated by Transport for NSW and contractor John Holland CPB who, after multiple noise complaints, eventually gave some residents noise-cancelling headphones.
Rozelle resident David Anderson told Jim Wilson while the worst is now over, the last few months have been “rough”.
“We had about eight weeks of solid noise under my house and my street.
“You can feel the vibration through the pillow at your head, and it stops and starts.”
In a bizarre twist to the story, the contractor demanded some recipients of the headphones sign gag orders preventing them from telling their neighbours.
Mr Anderson said they were later “shamed” into rescinding the NDAs by coverage in The Sydney Morning Herald.
“It seems to me a political process, that you’ve got to get into the media to get anything done about things.”
